LOS ANGELES—In what executives described as a more efficient content lifecycle, a streaming platform canceled a beloved series Thursday while viewers were still sharing the announcement of its second season.

“We’re incredibly proud of the community this show built over the past eleven minutes,” a spokesperson said. “Their passion will live on in our quarterly presentation.”

The renewal graphic had reportedly performed well enough to justify a spinoff of the announcement itself. The original series will remain available until the company finishes working out how to make it disappear from people’s memories.

Fans have launched a campaign to save the show, which the platform has already optioned as a six-part documentary.
