LOCARNO, SWITZERLAND — Amid the mid-morning rush at craft services on Tuesday, a walkie-talkie was mistaken for a pepper grinder, leaving one crew member hospitalized.
“I twisted the top knob thinking it was the coarseness dial,” said second assistant director Anika Fenske. “When I cranked it, the plastic flaked perfectly over Boyd’s scrambled eggs, and the chopped-up rubber antenna looked exactly like fresh black pepper.”
“Boyd mentioned the seasoning had a sharp, metallic crunch,” Fenske continued. “But we just assumed catering had finally splurged on an artisanal spice blend. It wasn’t until he swallowed the battery that we realized someone had left a Motorola next to the olive oil.”
At press time, doctors confirmed the ingested radio was still actively broadcasting on channel one, forcing the film’s sound mixer to record all dialogue over the muffled sounds of Boyd’s digestive tract.
