LOS ANGELES — Hoping to stem the tide of runaway productions to states with cheaper labor, the Los Angeles Film Commission announced Monday a new 15% tax credit for productions whose key personnel hold the “correct” political opinions.
“We realized that simply shooting in California isn’t enough to prove you’re on the right side of history,” said Film LA commissioner Priya Frisch. “That’s why productions can now submit their cast and crew’s internet histories to our ideological compliance board for cash back.”
Frisch noted that an additional 5% bump is available to any production that incorporates a daily land acknowledgment into its morning safety briefings.
“It’s a rigorous audit,” Frisch added. “But if your lead actor has publicly disavowed a problematic relative and your key grip’s voting record perfectly aligns with our morality matrix, your project will practically pay for itself!”
At press time, a $200 million streaming thriller had been denied the subsidy after investigators discovered the costume designer once liked an Instagram photo of a gas stove.
