NEW ORLEANS — Head makeup artist Janelle Priebe was the only person on the set of an upcoming fantasy film series who knew that the goblins appearing in background shots were in fact real, she confirmed in an exclusive interview on Friday.

“When they first scurried out of the swamp and started chewing on the cables, I was terrified,” said Priebe, 44. She explained that the director immediately began filming the creatures while praising her department for their hyper-realistic practical effects.

“Everyone else assumed they were background actors, but I knew that we had not done any makeup work on these... things. But I had to adapt, and I didn't want to ruin the director's delight... so I quickly realized they hit their marks as long as you toss them raw meat,” Priebe said. “Honestly, letting them play the henchmen saves us six hours in the makeup chair every morning.”

At press time, Priebe was seen blending foundation onto a hobgoblin in an effort to pass it off as the lead actor, who was dragged into a drainage culvert on Tuesday.
