VANCOUVER — Director Vic Castellano blamed his focus puller Wednesday after footage of an actual ghost came back from dailies looking unacceptably soft.

“We spent hours doing a blood ritual to summon this entity, and when it finally floated up from the floorboards, its hollow eye sockets were out of focus,” Castellano said, noting that any professional camera department should be prepared to rack focus to anything.

“You can plainly see the sharpest plane is on the wallpaper directly behind the ghost,” Castellano continued. “I specifically asked him to pull to the apparition, but apparently he's not good enough to focus on something floating in the middle of empty space... it was disappointing.”

Castellano added that reshooting was out of the question, as the spirit had already dragged the boom operator into the eternal abyss and production could not afford to sacrifice another crew member to reset the pentagram.
