LOS ANGELES — Calling the opportunity "honestly huge," a local production assistant attempted to settle this month's rent Sunday night by projecting the end credits of a short film onto the side of his apartment building.

"That's you, right there, a full card to yourself," the tenant said, noting that the credit would remain in place for the film's entire festival run, which he described as "basically guaranteed." "Do you know what that would cost you at a real production company?"

The landlord, who had come outside in a bathrobe, declined a deferred-payment arrangement, an associate producer credit, and a chance to see the film early, which the tenant had characterized as an honor.

At press time, the landlord had responded "in turn" by projecting a three-day notice onto the tenant's apartment door.
