JOSHUA TREE, CA — The assistant directing department of an upcoming action film took full responsibility Monday for a string of supernatural casualties, citing a set-wide misunderstanding over the phrase "wrap the mummy."

“I explicitly shouted over the walkie, 'Okay everyone, let's wrap the mummy!' meaning we needed the effects team to quickly apply the enchanted linen bandages so the millennia-old sovereign wouldn't awaken,” said First AD Martin Keller. “But the crew just heard the word 'wrap,' assumed we were totally done filming for the day, and immediately turned off the lights and packed up the trucks to go to the bar.”

Because the sacred linen seals were never applied, the pharaoh awoke during golden hour and liquefied the remaining grip department with a swarm of flesh-eating scarabs.

“It’s just a classic industry miscommunication,” Keller said, noting that the resulting supernatural plague was entirely avoidable. “Half the production was doing tequila shots at the hotel, and the other half was being chased through craft services by a vengeful Egyptian deity. We really should have been more specific with our terminology.”
