BURBANK, CA — Four background actors were hospitalized Tuesday after a makeup artist on an indie thriller reached for the wrong unlabeled jug and covered them in several gallons of real human blood.
"In my defense, it was in the blood bin," said makeup artist Dana Reyes, noting that the fluid matched the department's usual corn-syrup blend in color, weight, and drip. "Nobody said a word until it started to clot."
Crew members confirmed the blood had been sitting beside the fake blood for weeks, having been ordered by the director for a single insert shot he described as non-negotiable.
After reviewing the footage, the director called the accident was caught on film and was, in fact, the strongest material the production had captured so far and confirmed his lawyers would be fighting to keep it in the film.
At press time, Reyes had relabeled both jugs "BLOOD", for added clarity.
